Thanks to Chennai based senior transplant Surgeon Dr Karthik Mathivanan and his team for giving a new lease of life to the girl.

KG hospital chairman Dr Bhakthavatsalam while felicitating the lead surgeon Dr Karthik said that it was a proud moment for the hospital as this was the first time that such a challenging life saving procedure was attempted before. “The patient Thamizharasi is the second daughter of day labourer Ravi, she was married 8 months ago. Meanwhile, she developed swelling in her arms, feet and face after which it led to jaundice. The doctors diagnosed that she had extreme liver damage. Following which she was referred to KG for ten days ago” he said adding that after preliminary tests it was decided that a liver donor was her sole option. Based on the doctor’s advice her father donated part of his liver.

Dr Karthik Mathivanan an expert in liver transplant surgery from Chennai along with his team and some of the doctors from KG hospital performed the Split Liver Transplant surgery on the girl which stretched out for nearly 24 hours. A portion of the fathers liver was transplanted on the girl.
