Hepatorenal Syndrome

Overview

Hepato-renal syndrome is a disorder affecting the kidneys & liver and is associated with liver cirrhosis. Progressive failure of kidneys occurs due to an existing liver disorder, leading to poor blood filtration and ultimately liver failure as well.

Symptoms

Hepatorenal syndrome may present as a multitude of symptoms including

Dark urine
Nausea
Vomiting
Increase in body weight
Fluid filled abdomen
Muscle spasms
Confusion

Prevention

Hepatorenal syndrome can only be prevented by following a good lifestyle, adequate diet, practising good hygiene and limiting alcohol consumption.
